Tribunal Strikes Out Rhodes-Vivour, LP From Jandor’s Petition Over Lagos Gov Election

  Jandor is challenging the return of Babajide SanwoOlu and Obafemi Hamzat in the March 18 governorship election in Lagos State. The Lagos State Governorship Election Tribunal has struck out the Labour Party and its Candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, from the petition of his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Olajide Adediran popularly known as Jandor, against the recent governorship election.  Jandor is challenging the return of Babajide SanwoOlu and Obafemi Hamzat in the March 18 governorship election in Lagos State.   The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has criticised Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Tinubu, for not including Igbo people in his transition committee. Mr Tinubu recently nominated 14 people to the committee to assist him in achieving a smooth transition from President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to his own on 29 May. In the list of nominees seen by PREMIUM TIMES, no Igbo person was on the committee. Reacting, the Vice-President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Damian Okeke-Ogene, accused the president-elect of being a “tribalist”, according to a  report by Vanguard newspaper. “Igbophobia is in his (Tinubu) veins, and by not including Igbo people in the handover committee, he is only trying to reopen old wounds.   The Labour Party has dissociated from a viral letter signed by the self-acclaimed factional national chairman of the party, Lamidi Apapa, asking the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to dismiss all cases by the party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against the emergence of the All Progressives Congress Bola Tibubu, in the February 25 General election. According to a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday by the party's acting National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, it partly read, "We urged the Tribunal in Abuja to disregard the antics by Apapa, who us a suspended Deputy National Chairman of our party.   The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has won the 2023 governorship election in the state. Mr Mbah polled 160,895 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, who scored 157,552 votes. The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Frank Nweke Jr, garnered 17,983 votes to come a distant third, while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Uche Nnaji, placed fourth, with 14,575 votes. The Returning Officer for the election, Maduebibisi Iwe, announced the result at State Collation Centre of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday night at exactly 10: 47 p.m. “That Mbah Peter Ndubuisi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), having satisfied all the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes in the election, is hereby declared the winner of the election and is returned elected,” Mr Iwe declared.
