Coup-Burkina Faso and Mali have joined forces with Niger, potentially leading to conflict.

Burkina Faso and Mali, On Monday, a warning was issued against military intervention in Niger, which has been hit by a coup. The notice stated that such intervention would be equivalent to starting a war in the West African region.

According to reports, the warning was issued in a joint statement by two countries governed by military-backed regimes. This warning was in response to a threat from West African leaders.

It's important to remember that during an emergency meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) leadership discussed the successful coup in Niger last week. Chaired by President Bola Tinubu, ECOWAS threatened military action against the junta and gave them a seven-day ultimatum to reinstate captive President Mohamed Bazoum. Failure to comply would result in sanctions.

In response to a perceived threat, Burkina Faso and Mali issued a statement on their national broadcasts on Monday night. They urged West African leaders to refrain from interfering with Niger and emphasized that any actions deemed inappropriate would have serious consequences.

Part of the statement reads, "The transitional governments of Burkina Faso and Mali express their fraternal solidarity… to the people of Niger, who have decided with full responsibility to take their destiny in hand and assume the fullness of their sovereignty before history.

"Any military intervention against Niger would be tantamount to a declaration of war against Burkina Faso and Mali."

Recall that the leadership of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, had during its emergency meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, threatened military action against Niger's junta after the successful coup last week.

In the meeting chaired by its Chairman, President Bola Tinubu, ECOWAS gave the junta seven days to reinstate President Mohamed Bazoum, who is being held captive or facing sanctions.

Angered by the threat, Burkina Faso and Mali, in the statement read on their national broadcasts on Monday night, urged the West African leaders to leave Niger alone, stressing that any funny move would result in "disastrous consequences".

Niger's coup leaders named General Abdourahamane Tchiani, the former presidential guard chief, Head of State.
