On Wednesday, there was chaos at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) when officers of the Nigerian Police Force used tear gas on protesting students. The students had gathered to voice their disagreement with the increase in tuition fees. Initially, The protest seemed peaceful, but it soon turned violent when police officers fired shots to disperse the students. On Tuesday, the National Association of Nigerian Students warned the Department of State Services (DSS) not to hinder the students' right to protest, reminding them that it is a universally recognised human right. Giwa Temitope, the National Public Relations Officer of the union, claimed that DSS's statement on Monday about some politicians mobilising student leaders for violent protests against the Federal Government over socio-economic matters was propaganda. Propaganda.

He boasted that the protest would go on as planned.
