Has Finally Put An End To Poverty In Nigeria, Through The Approval Of Annual $5bn Humanitarian, Poverty Alleviation Trust Fund T he Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the establishment of the Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation Trust Fund to alleviate economic hardship for vulnerable Nigerians. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, announced at the end of the third council meeting, presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja, that a Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation Trust Fund has been approved. The fund is expected to generate up to $5 million annually and will be overseen by a governing board.  The board will supervise the fund's implementation, which its members will meticulously work out. President Bola Tinubu has asked the Supreme Court to dismiss the appeal filed by Atiku Abubakar and the People's Democratic Party (PDP). As per The Cable News, President Tinubu has stated that the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party is both abusive and lacks merit. You may recall that Abubakar and the PDP had filed a petition challenging the results of the presidential election held on February 25. The petitioners had raised several issues, including the alleged irregularities and non-compliance with the Electoral Act during the election. Military General Sentence To Seven Years Imprisonment By A Court-Martial Yesterday, the Special Army Court-martial in Abuja sentenced Maj Gen Umaru Mohammed, former Group Managing Director of Nigerian Army Properties Limited, to seven years for fraud. President of the Special Court Martial, Major General James Myam, read the sentences and ordered the convicted senior officer to refund the Nigerian Army the sum of $2,053,200 and N1,690,000. Mohammed was charged with eighteen counts of Stealing, forgery, misappropriation, and conspiracy. The sentences passed on him amounted to 49 years imprisonment, but the court announced that the sentences would run concurrently. As a result, the sentence was reduced to seven years. The army general pleaded not guilty to all the allegations, but the court found him guilty of 14 out of 18 charges.
