It's abusive, lacks merit' — Tinubu asks court to dismiss Atiku's appeal.

President Bola Tinubu has asked the Supreme Court to dismiss the appeal filed by Atiku Abubakar and the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

As per The Cable News, President Tinubu has stated that the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party is both abusive and lacks merit. You may recall that Abubakar and the PDP had filed a petition challenging the results of the presidential election held on February 25. The petitioners had raised several issues, including the alleged irregularities and non-compliance with the Electoral Act during the election.

It was alleged that Tinubu and his vice, Kashim Shettima, did not meet the requirements to run for office and did not win the election by a majority of lawful votes. However, the presidential election petition tribunal ruled on September 6 that Abubakar could not prove all the claims in his petition. Following this, the PDP candidate filed an appeal with the Supreme Court on September 18, citing 35 grounds of appeal. The appellants contend that the tribunal's findings were riddled with "grave errors and gross misrepresentation," leading to a miscarriage of justice. Therefore, the appellants are asking the Supreme Court to overturn the entire findings and conclusions of the tribunal.

In response to an appeal filed on Saturday, Tinubu stated that the appeal was abusive and requested dismissal. The President maintained that the appellants had failed to provide evidence to support their allegations and submissions at the tribunal. He argued that the tribunal was correct in its verdict and affirmation of his election. Tinubu claimed the lower court's findings were legally sound and demonstrated scholarship. Therefore, he urged the court to affirm the lower court's decision and dismiss the appeal entirely, as it lacked merit and honesty. Tinubu described the appeal as an abusive attempt by the appellants to undermine court processes. He urged the Supreme Court to dismiss it.
