  Double Standard As FG Is Threatening And Also Pleading With NLC And Its TUC Counterpart Over Indefinite Strike Alert The Nigerian Federal Government has urged the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) to suspend their planned nationwide indefinite strike scheduled to begin on October 3. The government has warned that proceeding with the proposed industrial action would constitute a gross violation of an existing court injunction. Meanwhile, the National Economic Council (NEC) has also called on the labour unions to refrain from embarking on the indefinite strike while advising the Federal Government and Labour to continue negotiations at the state level. Despite these appeals, the NLC has confirmed that the strike will proceed as planned.   The Lagos State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development on X platform, formerly Twitter, late Thursday night. The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested Balogun Eletu, a controversial socialite known as Sam Larry in Lagos. The arrest is about an ongoing investigation into the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, a singer popularly known as Mohbad. The confirmation of the arrest was made by the Lagos State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter) late on Thursday night.  Balogun Olamilekan Eletu, aka Sam Larry, is now in our custody. He is currently assisting with the ongoing investigation.

  South Africa's RCL Foods culls 410,000 chickens amid bird flu outbreak Sept 28 according to (Reuters) - South Africa's RCL Foods   (RCLJ.J)   said on Thursday its poultry unit Rainbow has culled 410,000 chickens due to the country's worst outbreak of avian flu, heightening fears of chicken meat and egg shortages. The Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) outbreak, a bird flu that spreads rapidly in an infected flock, causing a high death rate, has already impacted table egg supplies in the country. Producers have warned of  chicken meat shortages  in the coming weeks.  Rainbow is one of South Africa's largest chicken producers, supplying retailers and fast food businesses. "The outbreak has rushed, and the situation is constantly evolving. To date, an estimated 410,000 birds have been culled, resulting in an estimated $ the financial impact of 115 million rands ($5.99 million)," RCL Foods said in an update. On Tuesday, Burkina Faso's military government announced that the country's security and intelligence services had thwarted a coup attempt. Planned to destabilise the country and throw it into chaos. It has been almost a year since the interim President, Capt Ibrahim Traoré, seized power. That was the country's second coup of 2022 amid a growing Islamist insurgency. In a statement on television on Wednesday evening, the authorities said some arrests had been made, and they were actively pursuing other suspects without giving specific details. A revocation notice signed by the Permanent Secretary in the FCT Administration, Mr Olusade Adesola said the minister took the decision, “in the exercise of the powers conferred on him under Section 28(5)(a) & (b) of the Land Use Act 1978”. Underwater Drone-  BAE Systems is partnering with Canadian company Cellula Robotics to showcase its extra-large autonomous underwater vehicle in the U.K. next year, the British firm announced Tuesday. As the undersea battlespace matures, some companies are looking to speed up the development of uncrewed platforms that can work with crewed vessels to cover larger surface areas or serve as smaller alternatives to submarines to carry out covert operations. Among these is BAE Systems’ maritime services division, which launched its Herne extra-large autonomous underwater vehicle last year after noticing a market availability gap in this platform size. The Herne was designed so users could launch and recover it in several ways, including from harbours, ships or submarines. Adewale Adeniyi,  the Acting Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has revealed that Nigerian importers will soon be able to clear their goods from ports in Cotonou, Benin Republic. Adeniyi disclosed this following a two-day meeting between senior customs officials from Nigeria and Benin Republic. At the high-level meeting, agreements were reached to boost trade relations and combat smuggling. Adewale said, "We are building confidence in the system offered by the Republic of Benin; our importers are using their ports, and vice versa. If people in the Benin Republic want to use our ports, we trust trust in our systems. "And by this agreement, it means that Nigerian importers willing to use the ports in Cotonou can have their goods cleared in those ports because there would be an opportunity for them to pay duties on goods that are liable for payment of duties.   Apple's annual fall launch event has just concluded. The company launched new Series 9 Apple Watches and a new lineup of iPhone 15 phones. Most of the news was in line with expectations from analysts, though one detail caught investors by surprise: the pricing. Some analysts had expected price increases across the board for the iPhone 15 Pro lineup. But Apple kept the starting price for its new iPhone Pro phone the same as last year, at $999. The company did raise the starting price for its iPhone 15 Pro Max by $100, though it also included more storage with that phone. CG appoints 2 ACGs The Acting Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, appointed Comptrollers Florence Nanu Ogar-Modey and Queen Ogbudu as Acting Assistant Comptroller Generals.  Ag.  Video: People On The Run As Police tear gas protesting UNILAG students On Wednesday, there was chaos at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) when officers of the Nigerian Police Force used tear gas on protesting students. The students had gathered to voice their disagreement with the increase in tuition fees. Initially, The protest seemed peaceful, but it soon turned violent when police officers fired shots to disperse the students. On Tuesday, the National Association of Nigerian Students warned the Department of State Services (DSS) not to hinder the students' right to protest, reminding them that it is a universally recognised human right. Giwa Temitope, the National Public Relations Officer of the union, claimed that DSS's statement on Monday about some politicians mobilising student leaders for violent protests against the Federal Government over socio-economic matters was propaganda.  Lagos Airport On Fire A fire incident occurred at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Wednesday, causing chaos as passengers and airline operators were seen running out of the airport. At approximately 7:50 a.m., a smoke incident was reported at Terminal 1 of the airport in Ikeja, Lagos. The source of the smoke was traced to the basement of the Terminal building. Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, the FAAN Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, stated that the airport's Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) quickly responded to the situation and brought it under control. As a result of the smoke permeating some areas of the facility, the Terminal building was promptly evacuated to ensure the safety and well-being of all airport users.  President Tinubu Win Again As Tribunal Declares APM's Petition Incompetent The Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting in Abuja, has dismissed the case the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, filed to nullify President Bola Tinubu's election as incompetent.  The court held that issues the APM raised in its petition contained pre-election matters that could only be determined by the Federal High Court.  Chairman of the panel, Justice Haruna Tsammani, who read the ruling, upheld preliminary objections that all the Respondents raised to challenge the competence of the petition. Justice Haruna noted that since the petition centred on the qualification or otherwise of President Tinubu to contest the presidential election that was held on February 25, the APM ought to have gone to court within 14 days after Tinubu was nominated by the All Progressives Congress, APC.
