INDEPENDENCE DAY OUTREACH: OPERATION WHIRL STROKE PROMOTES EDUCATION AND HOPE AMONG DISPLACED CHILDREN IN BENUE STATE
In a heartwarming show of patriotism and service, the Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), Major General Moses Gara, marked Nigeria’s Independence Day with vulnerable Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the Daudu-2 Camp in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
3,000 Exercise Books Donated Across Camps and Schools
To commemorate the national day, the Force Commander donated 3,000 copies of 60-page exercise books to pupils and students of primary and secondary schools across the Joint Operations Area of Operation WHIRL STROKE. Beneficiaries included learners from Ortese and Abagana IDP Camps as well as Government Secondary School, Nigerian Air Force Base, Makurdi, among others.
Education as a Catalyst for Peace and Stability
The outreach forms part of OPWS’s broader civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) effort to rebuild trust, strengthen community relations, and promote learning as a pathway to peace and resilience for conflict-affected children.
“Our duty as a military force goes beyond protecting lives and property; it extends to nurturing the dreams of our children whose futures have been disrupted by conflict,” — Major General Moses Gara.
A Day of Unity and Hope
Independence Day activities at Daudu-2 Camp featured songs, cultural displays, and interactive learning sessions. Participants—children, caregivers, and security personnel—joined in a celebration that underscored unity, courage, and the promise of a brighter future through education.
