Introducing Kayode Egbetokun, a mathematician and former CSO to Tinubu who has been appointed as the acting IGP.

 President Bola Tinubu, on Monday, appointed Deputy Inspector-general of Police, DIG Kayode Egbetokun, as the acting Inspector-general of Police pending the confirmation of the Senate.


Egbetokun was recently appointed as the new Police boss after serving as the Deputy Inspector-general of Police and supervising DIG for the South-West geo-political zone. He was responsible for managing the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, starting April 6, 2023. Egbetokun was born on September 4, 1964, in Erinja, Yewa South local government area of Ogun State. He joined the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 1990, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, after completing his initial cadet training at the Nigeria Police Academy. 


Throughout his career, Egbetokun has attended numerous courses within and outside the Police Force. He has held several key positions, including Chief Security Officer to the then-elected governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, in 1999. He has also served as the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Lagos, and held positions such as Squadron Commander, MOPOL, Anti-Fraud Unit, FCT Command, Abuja, Chief Superintendent of Police, Administration, Lagos State Command headquarters, Ikeja, Area Commander, Osogbo, Osun State Command, and Area Commander, Gusau, Zamfara State Command.


In addition to being a Police officer, Egbetokun is also a Mathematician. He obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mathematics from the University of Lagos, Akoka, in June 1987. He briefly lectured Mathematics at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, before joining the Police Force. His other academic qualifications include an MSc in Engineering Analysis from the University of Lagos, Akoka, in 1996, a PGD in Petroleum Economics from Delta State University, Abraka, in 2000, and an MBA from Lagos State University, Ojo in 2004.
