‘I Owe You Nothing’, Tinubu Tells Wike.

Image
The President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has told Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State that he (Tinubu) owed him nothing but that “You have to lobby me to collect”. Tinubu said this today (Wednesday) in Port Harcourt, the state capital, during the inauguration of the Rumuokuta Flyover, while responding to a request by Governor Wike, who asked for refunds on federal projects undertaken by states of the federation. Justifying the proposal and why his administration has been able to deliver several significant projects seamlessly, Wike had told Tinubu: “Part of why we have uncompleted projects has to do with our procurement laws. If you follow the procurement law, it will take very long to complete tasks. “When you give a contractor 15%, inflation is rising almost every day; before you give another money, they will call for variation because of increasing cost of materials.“In our case, I call Mr Speaker to say we can’t continue this. We had to amend our procurement law to give us the

There Is No Amount Of Social Media Cry That Can Change My Decision, Now-Tinubu

Image
President-elect, Bola Tinubu has dared his critics on social media to continue saying whatever they like on various online platforms, saying it is a free-speech society. Tinubu insisted that he told the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, that he would not refund the cost of the flyovers he constructed in Rivers because he could only commit once he was sworn in as the President. Tinubu, during a banquet in his honour on Wednesday night, revisited what he called the banter with Wike, noting that it has generated a lot of reactions on social media.  But, the former Lagos State Governor said there is no name he has not been called on social media, stating that he does not respond to social media criticisms. He said, “I exchanged banter with Gov Wike if you take me seriously (it’s left to you). The truth is, I’m a President-elect. I have no signature for expenditure until sworn in. How can I make a commitment? I cannot sign a dime of Nigerian money or spend it now. There can only be o

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, says he has become an “odd man” in the country because he wanted to enforce the law. Ngige stated this on Monday while fielding questions on Arise Television’s Morning Show program. His statement is coming on a day Nigerian workers are celebra “May Day”. ting  Recall that the Minister was heavily criticized and attacked for withholding salaries of members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, during their eight months strike, which are yet to be paid. Health workers under the umbrella of the Nigeria Medical Association experienced same when they embarked on a four months strike, their salaries were never paid for the duration of the strike. However, the Minister lamented that Nigerians don’t like to obey laws, insisting he only enforced Section 43 of the Trade Dispute Act, which denies worker entitlement to salary if he withdraws his services. Ngige said, “People in Nigeria don’t like to obey laws. The statutes ar

The Governor Of Niger State Gov.Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, Recounting His Achievement In The Area Of Employment, Claiming To Have Employed Over 2,650

Image
The Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has disclosed that his administration had employed 250 graduates into the state civil service, 400 health workers and completed the employment of over 2,000 primary school teachers. The Governor stated this in a statement to mark the 2023 Worker’s Day in Minna. He said the administration is currently concluding the employment of more workers in the state civil service.  Recall an All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart and patron of its presidential campaign council in the State, Alh. Awaisu Giwa Wana in Minna had recently warned Bello to suspend last-minute appointments and massive employment in the civil service to stop unnecessary burdens. He reasoned that the Governor’s recent actions were uncalled for as they would put the incoming administration in a tight financial corner. However, Bello noted that although he is leaving office in a couple of days, he is still concerned with the huge wage bill of the state, which has remai

FG. Says That The Administration Of President Muhammadu Buhari Has Achieved Excellently, In The Area Of Workers Welfare, Sitting Minimum Wage As A Case Study

Image
FG says that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has performed excellently in the area of workers' welfare sitting minimum wage as a case study. What is your opinion?   As the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), marks his last May Day in the office today, labour unions have scored the regime and state governors low, saying they pauperized workers and inflicted hardship on Nigerians. They lamented the galloping Inflation in the country, which they said had eroded the 40 per cent pay rise recently approved by the Federal Government with effect from January. Last week, the government paid the 40 per cent increase in allowance to various categories of federal workers, but labour leaders said the pay rise had been lost to Inflation. The Consumer Price Index reported by the National Bureau of Statistics in March 2023 indicated that Nigeria's inflation rate accelerated to a new 17-year high of 22.04 per cent. According to the World Bank, Nigeria has one o

Is It Quite Timely To Call It Timely Analysis? The Foreign Policy Trends of Muslim-Majority States

Image
Muslim-majority states prefer to pursue neutrality in their foreign policy. Many believe this is because they simply oppose liberal ideology. However, a closer examination of their current strategic foreign Policy reveals a more nuanced, practical and multipolar approach. After over a year of war in Ukraine, some 50 Muslim-majority states from Morocco to Indonesia follow a neutrality policy in the Russia-Ukraine War. They neither support Russia nor Ukraine or its backer, the West. Muslim-majority states are unified in their neutral stance on the war and follow assertive foreign policy paradigms with broader international implications. Muslim-majority states "de-westernize" their international affairs and establish strategic partnerships with other great powers while reducing their dependence on arms suppliers from the US. They also avoid interstate rivalry and interference in the domestic affairs of fellow Muslim-majority states or other authoritarian great powers. This art
