"Uncovering the Devastating Impact of Corruption in FCT's Development Control: A Deadly Toll on Lives and Livelihoods Lost to Floods"

 Urban planning and management rely heavily on effective development control. This control ensures that development activities adhere to set regulations and standards, which are crucial in preventing environmental degradation, public safety hazards, and loss of lives and livelihoods. In Nigeria, the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) controls development in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).


However, corruption and selective enforcement have posed significant challenges to the FCDA's development control efforts, adversely affecting the environment and public safety. Therefore, establishing a more robust and transparent development control system, free from corruption and selective enforcement, is crucial.

One way to achieve this is by recruiting competent and accountable development control officers through a transparent process. These officers should receive adequate training and remuneration, adhere to a clear code of conduct and ethical standards, and face severe sanctions for any breaches.

Strict enforcement of development control regulations and holding violators accountable for their actions is also necessary. Total penalties, such as property seizure, should be imposed to deter future violations.

A transparent and robust development control system is fundamental in promoting sustainable urban development, environmental protection, and public safety. Therefore, addressing corruption, selective enforcement, and other challenges should be a priority for the Nigerian government to improve development control within the FCDA.
I would like to bring to your attention Mr. President a severe issue that is ongoing in our dear country and requires immediate attention.

Reports from the Development Control agency and owners of affected estates engaging in to get. to disregard accused of disregarding building regulations and safety standards, resulting in the tragic loss of life and property.

While an ongoing investigation occurs, a strong message must be sent that such behavior will not be tolerated in our society. Those responsible will face severe consequences for their actions.

As the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, I urge you to take decisive action. This is about investigating the matter and demonstrating to all Nigerians that we are committed to upholding and protecting our citizens.

Furthermore, I implore you to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future. This can be achieved by appointing qualified individuals to manage government agencies based on merit, not political affiliations.

We are at a critical point in our country's history and require strong and decisive leadership to move forward. By taking action in this matter, you will demonstrate your commitment to the welfare of all Nigerians and help restore confidence in the government's ability to serve its people.
